Victoria Torrie-Capan in Singapore: Classical Pilates Workshops

  • Altum Academy 1 Tanglin Road #04-18, Orchard Rendezvous Hotel Singapore 247905 Singapore (map)

November 7 to 10, 2026

Four days of Classical Pilates by a world-class teacher trained directly under Romana Kryzanowska, hosted at Altum Academy.

Victoria Torrie-Capan trained directly under Romana Kryzanowska, apprenticing at Drago's Gym in New York before completing her certification through Romana's Pilates in 2005. She is the Conference Director of Nashville's Classical Pilates conference, Music City Moves Me, and teaches regularly on Pilatesology, where her classes on the Reformer, Wunda Chair and Mat have reached Pilates teachers well beyond her own studio, Studio 66 in Nashville.

This November, Victoria Torrie-Capan teaches in Singapore for the first time, hosted by Altum Academy. Over four days she will lead six workshops covering both the apparatus and the clinical, assessment-based side of her teaching.

Workshop 1

The Leverage Point: Reformer
Sat, Nov 7, 2026 | 2:30pm - 5:30pm

Apparatus Focus

Most teachers use the Reformer's springs and straps to add or remove resistance. Few use them to actually teach leverage, the relationship between where force is applied to the body and how that force travels through it.

This workshop examines the Reformer as a leverage system, from the most basic exercises through to advanced work. We'll look closely at the springs, straps, foot bar and carriage, not as separate parts but as a single mechanism for organising alignment and generating power in movement.

Workshop 2

The Leverage Point: Wunda Chair
Sun, Nov 8, 2026 | 2:30pm - 5:30pm

Apparatus Focus

The Wunda Chair is often treated as the Reformer's smaller, more intimidating cousin, an apparatus reserved for advanced students and taught cautiously (if at all). That caution typically comes from an incomplete understanding of what the chair is actually doing.

This workshop applies the same leverage-based approach from the Reformer session to the Wunda Chair specifically, working through the mechanics of the pedal, the spring tension, and how the body's own leverage interacts with both. Teachers who attend this workshop leave with a framework for building new exercises on the Wunda Chair with confidence.

Workshop 3

Pre-Pilates for Recovery and Rehabilitation
Mon, Nov 9, 2026 | 10am - 1pm

Rehab & Movement Science

More medical professionals are recommending Pilates to their patients than ever, and more clients are arriving at the studio door straight out of physical therapy. Most teachers have never been taught how to receive them.

This workshop teaches the exercises and progressions that prepare a client walking out of rehabilitation for a traditional Pilates program, and how to communicate effectively with the physiotherapists sending them your way. This is a skill more teachers across Asia will need as post-injury and post-rehab clients become a bigger part of studio populations.

Workshop 4

Advanced Cadillac: Progressions
Mon, Nov 9, 2026 | 2:30pm - 5:30pm

Apparatus Focus

Advanced Cadillac work is often taught as a display of skill rather than a destination a client can actually be prepared for. The result is a gap: teachers either avoid advanced work altogether, or introduce it before a client has the foundation to do it safely.

This workshop demonstrates how intermediate-level Mat exercises progress directly into advanced skills on the Cadillac. The focus is on proprioception, spatial awareness and coordination, and how to use the other apparatus in the Classical system to build them up.

Workshop 5

Mobility or Stability? Understanding the Shoulder Girdle Through Pilates
Tue, Nov 10, 2026 | 10am - 1pm

Rehab & Movement Science

As a Pilates teacher, you often meet clients with pathologies such as frozen shoulder, shoulder impingement, inflammation, tendonitis, and rotator cuff strain.

In this workshop you will learn to correctly assess the placement of your client's shoulder girdle, the appropriate range and movement of the girdle, and when to stabilise versus mobilise it within the scope of a Pilates practice. The focus is on the optimal position of the shoulder girdle in relation to the ribcage, learned through movement rather than anatomy lecture.

Workshop 6

Distribution of Tension: Working Through Hypermobility
Tue, Nov 10, 2026 | 2:30pm - 5:30pm

This workshop discusses how to distribute tension evenly through the joints, tissue and muscles in movement and alignment. The system works for all body types, but hypermobile clients are often the hardest to apply it to, since they lack the tension the system usually assumes is already there.

This kind of training is hard to find in Singapore, and teachers who complete it leave with technique most in this market haven't had access to yet.
