Train as a Classical Pilates teacher through structured mentorship, disciplined study, and the full system of the work.

The Altum Teacher Training Programme is a comprehensive education in Classical Pilates designed to develop thoughtful, capable teachers.

About the Programme

More than a certification, ATTP is a journey into understanding the Classical Pilates method deeply. Students learn not only the exercises, but the intent behind them: how each movement fits within the larger system of Pilates and how to convey it clearly to others.

The programme encourages students to experience the work deeply in their own bodies and gradually develop their own teaching voice. By the end of the programme, students leave with a strong foundation in the Classical Pilates system and the ability to teach with depth, purpose, and professional responsibility.

The Altum Difference

Why Train with ATTP

Many teacher training programmes focus mainly on learning exercises. At Altum, the focus is on understanding the work and becoming a responsible teacher.

  • Understand the System: Learn how the exercises connect within the Classical Pilates method.

  • Learn Through Personal Practice: Experience the work consistently in your own body.

  • Develop Your Teaching Voice: Communicate the work clearly without relying on memorised scripts.

  • Master Employability: Emphasise on observation, responsible teaching, personal branding, and professional conduct.

The programme attracts dedicated Pilates practitioners, movement professionals, and aspiring teachers who wish to study the Classical Pilates system in depth.

Programme Overview

ATTP combines structured seminars, mentorship, personal practice, and practical teaching experience. The programme develops both technical understanding and responsible teaching skills through a progressive training pathway.

Training Structure

  • Three progressive in-person seminars: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced

  • Approximately 600 hours of comprehensive training

  • Observation, self-practice, and practice teaching requirements

  • One-to-one and group mentorship throughout the programme

  • Specialist workshops integrated into the academic year

  • Written and practical assessments at each stage

How the Programme is Structured

Pre-Pilates → Basic → Intermediate → Advanced

The Altum Teacher Training Programme progresses through four stages of study:

Training is delivered through three progressive in-person seminars that deepen both personal practice and teaching ability.

  • Basic Seminar (50 hours)

Pre-Pilates, introduction to the foundational reformer and mat repertoire, core principles of the method, and fundamental teaching skills.

  • Intermediate Seminar (60 hours)

Expansion of the Intermediate repertoire and development of teaching skills through increased observation, practice teaching, and mentorship.

  • Advanced Seminar (50 hours)

Study of the advanced system and deeper understanding of the full Classical Pilates method.

Additional Workshops and Specialist Sessions

Alongside the seminars, students participate in workshops that deepen both technical understanding and the craft of teaching.

  • Cueing with Clarity – led by Joanne Chong

  • Functional Anatomy – taught by senior physiotherapist Kai Ling

  • Nuts & Bolts Workshop – with Karen Frischmann

  • Technical and career development sessions such as Caring for the Reformer

ATTP students receive priority access and discounted participation in these workshops.

Practice and Mentorship

Beyond the seminar weekends, students continue developing their teaching through structured practice and mentorship.

  • Personal practice and observation

  • Practice teaching with feedback

  • One-to-one mentorship sessions

  • Group mentorship discussions

  • Workshops with globally respected teachers in the Classical Pilates community

Training Hours and Practice Requirements

ATTP is designed as a comprehensive professional training totalling approximately 600 hours.

Alongside the seminar weekends, students complete additional training hours through observation, practice, and mentorship.

Requirements at Each Level

Students are required to complete 110 hours of practical training at each level, including:

  • Observation hours (40 hours)

  • Self-practice (50 hours)

  • Practice teaching (20 hours)

  • Mentorship (20 hours) + Group Mentorship (10 hours)

These hours allow students to integrate the work in their own bodies while gradually developing teaching experience under guidance.

Mentorship & Learning Environment

Mentorship

ATTP places strong emphasis on close guidance throughout the programme.

Unlike large cohort programmes where students can become lost in the group, we maintain a mentorship-focused approach. Students work closely with experienced teachers who guide their development, observe their teaching, and provide feedback throughout the training journey.

What Happens After Graduation

Graduates of the Altum Teacher Training Programme pursue a range of paths within the Pilates community.

ATTP graduates often go on to:

  • Teach Classical Pilates in professional studio environments

Because the programme emphasises practical teaching experience and mentorship, graduates leave prepared to guide clients responsibly and contribute meaningfully within professional studios.
