Classical Pilates Teacher Training | Frequently Asked Questions

Most Asked Questions

  • Applicants should have a working familiarity with the foundational Classical Pilates repertoire and regular personal practice before entering the programme.

All applicants are required to complete a pre-admission assessment with the Programme Director. This assessment helps us understand your movement background and determine whether the programme is the right next step for you.

If you are unsure whether you meet the prerequisites, we encourage you to contact the Academy team for guidance.

  • The Altum Teacher Training Programme is designed to be completed over approximately 12–18 months, depending on each student’s pace in completing their observation, practice, and mentorship hours.

Students progress through the programme in stages while gradually developing their teaching experience alongside the seminar training.

  • Possibly. Each case is assessed individually.

Teachers who are already fully certified in another Pilates method may be considered for bridging into the programme, subject to a pre-admission assessment.

Please contact our Academy team to discuss your background and receive guidance on eligibility and fees.

  • Yes. Students who successfully complete all programme requirements (including seminar training, practice hours, mentorship, and final assessments) will graduate with certification from the Altum Teacher Training Programme (ATTP).

Graduates are prepared to teach the Classical Pilates system responsibly in studio environments.

  • No. Classical Pilates is taught as a progressive system, not as a collection of individual exercises.

The programme is structured to develop understanding step by step, from foundational work through to more advanced repertoire. For this reason, levels cannot be skipped within the ATTP curriculum.

  • No, we do not offer scholarships.

Instead, we focus on maintaining a training environment built on mutual commitment rather than contractual obligation. Our aim is to support teachers who choose to pursue the work seriously and develop their careers with autonomy.

  • Yes. Payment plans are available through Atome and SPay (processing fees apply).

In some cases, instalments may also be arranged directly with the Academy. However, all programme fees must be fully paid one month before the programme begins.

More Questions

  • The programme is designed primarily as an in-person learning experience, as much of the training involves hands-on teaching and observation.

In exceptional circumstances, limited online participation may be arranged. However, additional in-person sessions may be required to ensure the missed material is properly covered.

Students are strongly encouraged to plan their schedules to attend all seminars in person.

  • Applicants with prior injuries or medical conditions may still apply, particularly if they have already worked with a physiotherapist or post-rehabilitation programme that incorporates Classical Pilates.

All applicants must pass the initial assessment to ensure they are ready to participate safely in the programme.

If you are new to Classical Pilates or currently managing an injury, we recommend contacting the Academy team to discuss your situation before applying.

  • No. Certain required workshops are billed separately.

    These include workshops such as:

    • Functional Anatomy (taught by a senior physiotherapist)

    • Cueing with Clarity

  • Individual mentorship hours are not included in the programme fee.

    However, ATTP trainees receive:

    • Discounted mentorship rates

    • 6 hours of group mentoring sessions with Programme Director Joanne Chong and mentors Maegan Teh and Tan Ci Ci

These sessions support trainees in developing their teaching skills and integrating the work throughout the programme.

  • Graduates may be offered the opportunity to join Altum Pilates or our partner studios, as Classical teachers are increasingly in demand across Asia.

However, graduating from ATTP does not guarantee a teaching position at Altum.

The programme is designed to develop teachers who are employable across the Pilates industry. While some graduates may go on to teach within the Altum network, we encourage graduates to explore opportunities across studios and communities where Classical Pilates is needed.

  • Your learning should never stop! After graduation, you’ll have access to:

    • Specialty workshops at Altum Academy

    • Ongoing continuing education with global leaders (e.g. Scolio-Pilates®).

    • A lifelong mentoring community at Altum

  • Yes. While contemporary Pilates dominates the market, demand for Classical teachers is growing quickly in Asia. Clients often find the Classical method more challenging, precise, and rewarding, many who transition from contemporary stay with Classical long-term. This has created strong and consistent demand for teachers trained in the system.
